Michelle Young has been a firefighter with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services since 1995. One of the first Urban Female firefighters in Queensland, Michelle’s career has been littered with firsts – she has been the first female at every rank and now is the Assistant Commissioner of Far Northern Region which covers 269,000km2.
Throughout her 25 years of service Michelle has had a number of different roles across areas including Operations, Training, Community Safety and Business Management, running large scale incidents including wildfires and cyclones.
Michelle is the Previous Vice Chairperson of the Australasian Women and Firefighting Association and is the international Trustee for Women in Fire. She is dedicated to attracting, promoting and developing women in the fire and emergency services industries. Michelle is a qualified Mediator and has a Graduate Certificate in Public Safety Business management and a Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership (Policing and Emergency Services) and Strategic Leadership – she is currently studying an Executive Master’s in public business administration.
