Angela Hughes is currently a Fire Captain with the Baltimore County Fire Department in Maryland. She began her passion with the fire service as a volunteer with a local fire department at the age of sixteen.
Her professional career began in 1989 as a Paramedic with the Baltimore City Fire Department. Three years later she was hired by the Baltimore County Fire Department. Her experience includes functioning as a Paramedic/Firefighter, Fire Specialist and Fire Marshal. Angela has served as a mentor and coach for new employees in her department.
With strong enthusiasm for community outreach and public education she serves the Baltimore County Fire Service with great pride and dedication. She has been the recipient of local awards including “Young Firefighter” & “Paramedic” of the year. Angela is the co-founder of Baltimore County Women in the Fire Service: a group dedicated to leading, advocating, mentoring and encouraging success for women in the department.
Angela is married to her classmate from the fire academy, Captain Rob Hughes. She resides in Harford County, Maryland with her husband and children.
Her Committee work includes the USFA Severity of House Fires, FEMA grant reviews, VCOS Diversity and Inclusion, National Fallen Firefighters Tampa 2, NFFF Suicide Symposium and NFPA First Responder Forum. Captain Hughes has been published in Fire Engineering Magazine, serves on the Fire Engineering, FDIC and Fire Rescue Advisory Boards.
