In partnership with the United States Fire Administration we are releasing a new report, Emerging Health and Safety Issues among Women in the Fire Service. The report provides the results of a study looking at the critical health and safety issues of female firefighters and EMS responders. The Emerging Health and Safety Issues among Women in the Fire Service report details initiatives, programs, and strategies to enhance health and safety aimed to reduce on-duty female firefighter fatalities and injuries.
It is estimated that women held 12,850 career firefighting roles and 72,250 volunteer roles nationally, averaging 7.3 percent of the U.S. fire service overall. Because of this presence, there is a need for effective safety and health support for the nation’s female firefighters.
