Fire Chief, West Dundee, IL (pop. est. 8,258). Historic, beautiful community with a charming downtown, West Dundee is 40 miles west of Chicago in Kane County, and part of the upper Fox River valley. The Village is proud of its small-town appeal, historical sites and vibrant residential neighborhoods. The Village is seeking a progressive, highly collaborative and passionate leader to serve as its next Fire Chief. The Village encompasses five square miles and has 71 acres of parks and open space. The Fire Chief position is a very visible member of the senior leadership team of the Village and requires well-developed leadership abilities and management skill sets that are based upon consensus building and problem-solving. The Fire Chief is appointed by and reports to the Village Manager.
The West Dundee Fire Department is a “combination department” utilizing 10 career and 25 part-time personnel in the service delivery system from two public safety buildings. The department has an ISO Class 3 rating. The department provides advanced life support emergency medical care. Emergency medical technicians and paramedics provide assessment, pre-hospital treatment, and transportation to Sherman and Provena Saint Joseph Hospitals located in Elgin, IL and Saint Alexis Medical Center located in Hoffman Estates. The department has an EMS transport billing ordinance that provides for resources for EMS operations through a third-party vendor. The department’s FY2019-20 budget is $2,464,121. In 2018 they responded to 1497 EMS and fire and emergency service calls. The Fire Chief also serves as the Village’s Emergency Manager.

Have thorough knowledge of the principles of personnel management including recruiting, training, promoting, disciplining, and terminating employees within a fire service context and more.
Successful candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related field with ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in fire and rescue administration, emergency medical services, firefighting, emergency management and hazardous materials. A Master’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration or other related fields is preferred. Graduation from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program and Emergency Manager and Incident Manager Certifications preferred. The annual salary for this position is between $102,000 and $124,000 depending upon qualifications. The Village of West Dundee, IL also offers an attractive and competitive benefits package.
