Job Opportunity – Career Battalion Chief

Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 10 (“MCESD No. 10”) and the Magnolia Fire Department (“MFD”) is seeking eligible men or women to become Battalion Chiefs for our District.  The Battalion Chief Officers report directly to the Assistant Chief of Operations.

MCESD No. 10 is located in the southwest corner of Montgomery County, Texas, and covers an approximate area of one-hundred sixty-four (164) square miles, serving a population in excess of 138,000 people.  MCESD No. 10 is in a rapidly growing area covering both urban, suburban and rural areas.  Eighty percent of the District IS NOT protected with fire hydrants.  MCESD staffs nine (9) fire stations and is divided into two (2) Battalions.

The MCESD No. 10 / MFD responded to five thousand five hundred and fifty-one (5,551) emergency incidents in 2019.

The Department is currently transitioning from a 501c3 Fire Depart to a governmental agency as of January 1, 2022.  MCESD No. 10 has an ISO rating of two (2) / ten (10).

Duties of the Battalion Chief:

Will observe and follow all safety rules, regulations and policies.
Shall display equal and impartial treatment of all Employees and Members at all times.  The Battalion Chief (“BC”) shall not be unjust, show favoritism, shield incompetence, misconduct or neglect of duty.
Shall be assigned to a twenty-four (24) hour shift, working an average of fifty-three (53) hours per week.
Able to size up incidents.
Supervises Full-Time, Part-Time and Volunteer suppression and Emergency Medical System – Basic (“EMT-B”) employees.
Handle Community Complaints.
Conducts personnel performance reviews.
Requirements:

Shall possess and maintain a Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) Fire Officer II certification.
Shall possess and maintain a TCFP Fire Instructor II Certification.
Shall possess and maintain a TCFP Advanced Firefighter certification.
Shall possess and maintain a TCFP Driver Operator Engine Certification (aerial preferred).
Possess and able to possess a valid State of Texas Emergency Medical Technician-Basic License.
Possess or able to possess an American Heart Association (“AHA”) Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation card.
Shall possess the following National Incident Management System (“NIMS”) certification in ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 800B and Command and General Staff.
Member of the Fire Services for twelve (12) years.
Must possess excellent verbal and writing skills.
Shall pass an oral interview performed by MCESD No. Chief Officers, outside Chief Officers and 1-2 MCESD No. 10 Commissioner.
Shall pass a Physical Ability Test (“PAT”) performed by MCESD No. 10.
Shall pass a background check and Driver’s License check.
Shall pass a medical exam and drug test by a third party medical group.
Shall pass a behavioral health evaluation performed by a third party practitioner.
Shall be a non-smoker, non-nicotine user and non-vapor smoking user.
Wage and Benefits:

Starting hourly wage of $39.5166.
Fifty-three (53) hour workweek.

Dental Insurance one hundred (100%) percent employee; fifty (50%) percent family.
