Firensics, Inc, a division of Haag Global, a leader in forensic engineering for 98 years, is seeking an experienced Fire Investigator in the New Orleans or Baton Rouge, LA area. (This is a fulltime, remote position, so the exact location is flexible.) Our expert will evaluate the origin, cause, classification, and responsibility of fires and explosions involving vehicles, heavy equipment, single and multi-family residences, commercial structures, and industrial complexes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determining the origin and cause of fires and explosions.
  • Performing scene examinations, including debris removal/sifting and scene reconstruction.
  • Interviewing witnesses, fire department personnel, and investigating officials.
  • Collecting public records and conducting product research.
  • Effectively communicating opinions verbally and in writing.
  • Testifying in depositions and/or court.
  • Advise and consult current and potential clients, including insurance and legal industry personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years as a fire consultant or inspector; private sector is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of insurance, subrogation and liability issues.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to provide the utmost in customer service to our clients is a must.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team of experts.
  • Strong grasp of NFPA 1033 and 921, and how they relate to our industry.
  • Expert witness experience (deposition and/or trial) is highly desirable.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical functions of the job. This may include the clearing of fire/explosion debris, reconstructing the scene, and examining building systems at heights or in confined spaces, dark enclosed areas, excessive heat, and soot-filled environments. Digging, bending, and lifting, as well as moving and loading heavy or bulky objects such as ladders are essential functions of the job.
  • The ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed by vehicle or by plane.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather, and willing to work additional hours as needed.
  • Technical proficiency with computers, phones, cameras, etc.
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restrictions.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • College degree is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Nationally recognized certifications, such as CFEI (NAFI) and CFI (IAAI) are expected.
