Description

Under general supervision, Firefighter/Paramedics respond to emergency calls and provide immediate advanced life support to critically ill and/or injured victims. Firefighter/Paramedics perform general duty firefighting work and assist in eliminating fire hazards.

Work is conducted both in a fire station and in the field. This work includes exposure to smoke, odors, fumes, and dust; as well as periodic exposure to dangerous or life threatening situations. The work of a Firefighter/Paramedic involves irregular hours during the day and evenings on weekdays, weekends and holidays.

This physically demanding role requires physical agility and stamina including carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, running, stooping and crawling. Firefighter/Paramedics are required to have clear, understandable speech, seeing and hearing within normal visual/audio range with or without correction.

Minimum Qualifications
Education equivalent to graduation from high school is required.

Valid California Class C Driver’s License is required at the time of hire.

Possession of a valid equivalent is acceptable during the application process.

Possession of a valid Mobile Intensive Care Certificate (Paramedic) meeting the requirements of the California Department of Health and the Solano County Emergency Services Authority is required at time of hire.

This currently includes:

Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent; and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card issued in accordance with the guidelines of the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA); and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP); and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) Card

Selection Process

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the best-qualified applicants will be invited for further examination. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the examination may consist of an application screening, written and/or practical exam, oral interview, or any combination.

This position requires a thorough background investigation and a pre-employment medical exam (including a psychological evaluation) to be completed on each final candidate, prior to appointment.

Cal-JAC Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) will be providing the City of Fairfield with their Statewide Eligibility List (SEL).
