The Westminster Fire Department is currently seeking qualified applicants as lateral hire firefighters. The firefighter position consists of skilled firefighting work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. The firefighter position involves protection of life and property through firefighting and rescue activities and is performed under and evaluated by a company officer. This is a commissioned, safety sensitive position. This is a Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) non-exempt position, and compensation will be commensurate with experience. The salary range starting in January 2022 for the Firefighter position is $60,510 to $90,682.
For applicants holding an EMT-P/NR-EMT-P certification, eligibility for promotion to Fire Paramedic may occur after one year of employment, provided completion of the WFD Field Intern program and available openings. The salary range starting in January 2022 for the Fire Paramedic position is $101,279. Employees assigned to the Firefighter position typically work a 56-hour work week on the 48/96 schedule.
The retirement plan for the Department is the Fire & Police Pension Association (FPPA) – Statewide Defined Benefit Plan. The shift schedule is 48/96 (48-hours on & 96-hours off). The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee’s fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Laotian or American Sign Language (ASL).
The minimum requirements for the lateral Firefighter position are as follows:
- At least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Colorado Driver License and Safe Driving Record
- State of Colorado EMT-B Certification
- State of Colorado Firefighter II Certification
- State of Colorado Hazardous Materials Operations Certification
- ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800
- Intravenous Therapy (IV) Authorization
- Minimum of one year as a career (full-time, paid) firefighter/emergency medical technician
- Completion of a Firefighter I/II Academy
