If selected to take the test, the email will include instructions for scheduling the test and will include a Personal History Statement (PHS) and a Polygraph Statement that must be completed and turned in at the test.

The Personal History Statement (PHS) and the Polygraph Statement MUST be complete and notarized.
Complete all information. Do not leave blanks. Please ensure all documents are filled out completely.

The following documents must be included with your PHS and Polygraph Statement on test day:

Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic Certification and
Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certification
OR proof that you are enrolled in school and will be getting your certifications in the next 12 months.

TESTING PROCESS

Physical Ability Test, Panel Interview and Essay Test Dates: (Choose one date)

Check in Time:  7:30 – 8:30 am
Physical Ability Test will start promptly at 8:30 am.
Applicants will not be allowed to participate if they arrive after 8:30 am.

Inclement Weather:

The physical ability test, panel interview and essay test will be cancelled and rescheduled if it is raining on the day of the test.  The rescheduled make-up test date is: June 21, 2019 at 8:30 am with check-in time of 7:30 – 8:30 am.

Important Notes:
***      THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CAUSE FOR REMOVAL FROM THE PROCESS.
– incomplete personal history statement
– incomplete polygraph packet
– packet that is not notarized in all required sections
– not presenting required documents

***      Applicants will only be admitted to the test with an official picture ID (driver’s license, Texas state-issued ID card, passport, or military ID). The following IDs will not be accepted: employer or student IDs.
APPLICANTS WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE TEST WITHOUT THE REQUIRED ID.

***      Applicants requesting a reasonable accommodation for a disability in the essay process must submit such request in writing to the Director of Human Resources a minimum of five days prior to the test day.

BACKGROUND STANDARDS FOR THE FIRE FIGHTER DEPARTMENT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Be a high school graduate or have obtained a G.E.D.
Be at least 18 years of age by the date of the test.
Be Firefighter and Paramedic Certified OR
FF/EMT who is currently enrolled* in a credentialed Paramedic program OR
Paramedic who is currently enrolled* in a credentialed Fire Academy
*must be currently enrolled with an anticipated graduation date and test date within the next 12 months

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Be a high school graduate or have obtained a G.E.D.
Have no felony convictions, or misdemeanor convictions of such a number that would indicate a habitual law violator.
Be subjected to a search of records to disclose a criminal record.
Possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record as defined by City policy.
Have visual acuity needed to discern traffic signs and house numbers from approximately 50 feet, often in dim light.
Be able to distinguish between the colors red, yellow, and green.
Be able to successfully pass a validated physical ability test.
Be able to pass post-offer physical, psychological, drug test & polygraph.
All candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
