The City of Hendersonville Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Fire Lieutenant. An employee in this class is responsible for performing all general duty firefighting work as the on-site supervisor with assigned firefighting team. Emphasis of the work is on taking command of a fire or emergency situation and may relinquish the command upon arrival of senior officer. Work includes supervising or providing emergency medical services, directing fire tactics, and use and placement of equipment such as hoses, ladders, hand tools, and cutting tools. This employee also participates in training classes, cleans fire equipment, and cleans the station house as a member of a fire team. Employees in this class also perform a secondary administrative responsibility such as managing technical rescue equipment and training, pre-fire planning and incident surveys, hose testing & maintenance, vehicle maintenance & records, and other areas. Work is generally performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves personal hazard. Work standards and procedures are well established and understood but independent judgment and initiative is required as an on-scene supervisor at fires or emergency medical calls. Work in this position is characteristically supervisory in nature. However, depending on the incidents in which the employee is engaged, the work can be described as heavy work requiring the exertion of in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, balancing, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions.
Education and experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalency; completion of an Associate’s degree in fire science technology or related field preferred. NC certification as a Firefighter Level II certification held for five (5) years preferred.
Special Requirements: NC certification as a Firefighter Level II (minimum 3 years) Valid Driver’s License (Obtain Class B driver’s license within one year of employment), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic). NC certification at Hazmat Operations Level, Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification, NIMS 100,200,700 and 800, Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician (Obtain within one year of employment), Driver Operator Pumps, Driver Operator Aerials, Fire Officer I (Obtain within one year of employment).
Hiring range: $40,696.52- $61,929.53 Depending on qualifications.
