The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for the civil service examination for ENTRY-LEVEL FIREFIGHTER EXPERIENCED FIREFIGHTER. The positions consist of general duty firefighting work performing emergency and non-emergency tasks in the areas of fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire prevention, emergency or disaster preparedness, as well as responding to emergency medical calls and performing skilled Basic Life Support (BLS). The City of Everett employs seven (7) engine companies (one swing engine), two (2) ladder companies (1 swing ladder), (3) ALS medic units and three (3) BLS Aid unit when staffing allows. There are six (6) fire stations located throughout the city. There are currently 171 uniformed firefighters employed. In 2018 the Department was dispatched to approximately 23,000 incidents, of which almost 20,000 were EMS incidents. Successful candidates shall be subject to an extensive background check. Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a CPAT, LEOFF medical evaluation, and medical history review, which includes drug testing, and a psychological evaluation is a condition of employment. These job classifications are represented by the Everett Firefighters Union, IAFF Local 46.
