The City of Columbia seeks an energetic, visionary leader to serve as its next Fire Chief. This person will possess a thorough knowledge of effective managerial and administrative procedures, methods, and practices. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in fire suppression, first responder practices and techniques, fire and emergency response equipment operation and maintenance, fire codes and regulations.

A bachelor’s degree in fire service management, public administration, business administration, or a related field and a minimum of 15 years’ fire service experience, with five years as a chief officer in the same, or larger size, department and city as Columbia is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. A master’s degree is preferred. There is a residency requirement that requires the Fire Chief to reside within the City of Columbia.

The Fire Chief must possess a valid driver’s license, as well as the following certifications:

• MODFS Firefighter I and II (or their approved equivalent).

• Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.

• NIMS 100-400, 700 and 800 are required within one year of employment.

The following certifications are preferred:

• MODFS Fire Officer I and II.

• MODFS Fire Service Instructor, Fire Service Inspector, and Fire Investigator certifications.

• Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification.

• Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation.

The salary range for this position is $96,013-$168,605 based on qualifications and experience.
